Currently, Somalia faces Risk of Famine (IPC Phase 5) as the Horn of Africa experiences an unprecedented four seasons of below-average rain since late 2020 and soaring food prices are leading to worsening acute food insecurity and malnutrition. Mercy corps through it partner Nasib Relief and Development Organization (NARDO) is implementing a critical shock responsive program to increase community capacity and reduce their vulnerability by empowering them to be self-reliant in target areas of Gedo region (Dollow, BeledHawa, and Luuq Districts) by USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (USAID/BHA) funding.
- Distribution of WASH Non-Food Items in Beled-Hawa, Gedo region
- Water source rehabilitation (Shallow wells) in Luuq, Gedo region.
- Training and facilitation of Community health workers in Gedo region.
- Piping networks, construction of water kiosk and 2000L Water tank in Dolow, Gedo region.
- Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) training and support for women at reproductive age in Gedo region.
- Communal new latrine construction in Gedo region.
- Provision of fuel subsidies
