Piping networks, construction of water kiosk and 2000L Water tank in Dolow, Gedo region.
We believed that Access to safe and clean water is a necessity to sustain life and address water shortage in the highly growing population of displaced people in the IDP camp. As well, it addresses reducing the burden and spread of disease by improving hygiene and sanitation at water distribution points which fosters high access to clean, safe, and adequate water service to the IDP communities. Therefore, the laying of pipeline networks, construction of water kiosks, and Installation of a 2000L PVC/Fiberglass storage tank will improve the water supply for the newly displaced persons in the IDP for a long-term period.
We observed that……majority of the IDPs depend on a water system or water trucking. High populations displaced from the drought-affected areas arriving in camps put pressure on existing water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure causing water shortages in the existing systems.
From that we learned that…the developed systems met the urgent need of the community especially newly displaced persons in the IDP Camp. We also learned, the system is not sufficient compared to the high influx in the areas and the limited water storage capacity of the 2000L tank for one day.
Therefore, we will recommend the construction of a complete water supply system including, shallow wells digging/construction, an elevated water tower (20m3), pipeline connections, and water kiosks to safeguard human lives and livestock as the drought situation worsens which will act as a durable solution for water scarcity in the region. If to continue with the same activities, we also like to recommend an increase of PVC storage tank capacity to 5000L instead of the current 2000L to serve its purpose fully.
